Example #1: Take two cars of the same make/model (works best!), wet the pavement under the drive wheels, nose the cars together, and have some dramatic smoky burnout fun! Automatic cars work best, of course! Do this until a) you break one (or both!) cars; b) you blow a tire, or c) hotel management calls the police and chases you off!
Example #2: Finding out what the fuel cutoff speed is on your particular rental. Most cars these days cut out at around 107-115 mph. Must be to keep folks in new cars from outrunning the constabulary!
Example #3: Want a new car? Test-drive an example you're interested in, take out the rental insurance, and thrash the tar out of it! A "do-it-yourself" endurance test, if you will! Don't wreck it, just "massage" it!
BTW, many new cars (especially OnStar-equipped vehicles) can be traced to anywhere in North America to verify you actually drove the car where you said you would, plus verify top speed attained during the rental period, recording of the last 15-30 seconds of use (helps LE figure fault in an accident!) and "vehicle abuse" by the renter. Never mind this reeks of invasion of privacy, Big Brotherism, and assumption that you, the customer, are a liar and can't be trusted!
Some fun, huh!!?? |

It's very true someone's watching. Current-gerneration OBD II cars have the ability even to have information downloaded remotely indicating volume radio was operated at and how long the operator allowed the engine to run prior to driving the vehicle. OBD III I would rather not talk about. |

I was watching some travel show a couple of years ago and the show was about this chef that went out in the wilds of Scotland and used local materials (wild Rabbit, sage, etc.) to cook. He made the comment, "The only car that will go anywhere is a rental car." |
