So I parked my car at 4 PM Friday. Late Saturday afternoon into Sunday The temp around here dropped to 4 degrees F. Sunday between watching the Eagles win (4 & 26) I found that I has a frozen cold water pipe and waste line in the Kitchen (outside wall)
Fixed all that and got back to the car at 4 PM on Monday. Batteery was stone dead. Lefft the dome light on (4 watt)

Happens often to my father-in-law and I keep telling him to buy himself one of those 900-1200 portable "power stations" (w/light, cig-adapter, and battery jumpers). Super Target recenty had 900s on sale for $29.99.

But, NO... he never listens. He just calls me to drive over with mine and jumpstart his Nissan Sentra.

Oh wait, who's the fool here ? Me or him ?

It sure doesn't sound like your dad - he's getting free roadside/door-to-door service!

Of course, if your dad put up with half as much as mine did, he deserves it.

Just make sure you bunge-cord it while in the trunk... one sharp turn and your rear quarter-panel will have an outward dent.

Roadstergal,

It's my father-in-law. That whole side of the family is about as hard-headed as they can get. I could go on and tell you many stories but that's for another posting.

But my true nature comes out. Although I tell them how to 'get ahead in life', they continue to falter and I am there to pick them up. It's like my middle-son... I tell him to move his cup closer to the middle of the table. He somehow keeps getting it closer to the edge. As it gets closer, I evntually move it to the center.

So, the question is: "Who trained who ?". Do I let the accident happen to that a lesson is learned ? I guess I have to.

JRS,
Now you beg the question: How many kids do you have and how old are they? I've been accused of spoiling my young adult children but when they were little I was always broke. What's wrong with helping your kids?

Greenhornet,

Three (3) boys ages ranging from 3 to 9. I wholeheartedly believe in the old adage:

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

Spoiling our kids (and going broke, if necessary) is one thing. Teaching them to be self-supportive (at an early age) - - and you teach them how to survive.

Mommy and Daddy will NOT always be there.

Teach them when they are young and they will learn to grow with that 'strive to survive' attitude. For the would-be parents, the hardest time to discipline and teach your kids is when they are too old or have lost respect of you because they think that they 'know it all'.

JRS'
I have 3, aged 22 to 27, all educated and working, and all registered to vote. When I say spoiled I mean cars and inssurance. A package deal for 5 cars with me as the owner saves the kids a couple grand.

I dont have to worry about stuff like that.
I sold my 3 into medical experiments.. just like my dad did.

Who ever said 'Kids are expensive', were right. I got a bundle for them...

Very, very kind of you. Now let me give you a small scenario:

Kid #2 has a buddy who needs to borrow his car. He lends it to him for a day. "Friend" doesn't realize that he accidentally backed into a 5-6 year old on his tricycle (in this scenario, the kid just gets a knee scrape but is in pain). "Friend" drives off not knowing what happened. The kid was short and was not noticeable in the rear view mirror - - But "Mom" saw and writes down the license plate. Ambulance and Cops are called to the scene. "Mom" is furious. She wants blood. But a crafty lawyer is her best friend. The whole situation is documented and "Mr Lawyer" slaps a nice lawsuit on the owner of the vehicle (which was obtained based on the License plate number).

Again, very nice of you.

My Dad taught me (and my six siblings) early on not to loan money, cars, tools, your home, stuff in general, or your spouse to anyone, anytime, anywhere for any reason! Charity is another thing altogether. NEVER loan your car out! Give him a ride to point A, if you need to. I've had people get all pi$$ed off at me for sticking to my guns, but they weren't worth having as friends, anyway!
