I have a friend with a perpetually troublesome '90 Ford Taurus. I know, I know, get something else, but right now he's not able to. Anyone have any ideas of a info board similar to this one for this car? Thanks for any help! Goggle search did no good, BTY.

Fix Or Repair Daily (FORD)

Found On Road Dead (FORD)

I just couldn't resist

As info, my friend just traded her 1992 Ford Taurus. Two years ago it was in great condition but it started falling apart 3 months after the purchase. She just bought a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse.

And I quote:
=======================
"The way that it squeaks every so often; and the static in the radio when I turn the car on. And the fact that "My car key will also open the Gelner's Taurus!!!!!!"
=======================
Now if that ain't Love, I don't know what is. Well, if she falls out-of-Love with her car, she can at least take the neighbors. Heck, the key fits!

Just to share my experience on Ford, not all Fords are crabby. The first new car that I owned was a 1967 Mustang and it had the worst quality of all the cars I have ever owned. During the first 20k, I had to replace just about all the front suspension parts, shocks, ball joints, wheel bearings, etc. Then the radiator leaked together with the hoses, water pump and thermostat. Then the alternator quit. By about 90k, the engine (289 V8) lost about 30% of the original power. The body paint started to crack and totally oxidized.

My current Ford experience was quite contrary to the first. This is a Ford 1989 E150 van with 302 V8, just passed 255k miles. The 4-speed automatic trans lasted 245k, same with the radiator. The engine still pulls strongly. My previous E150 van behaved even better after 220k, but I had to get rid of it because of body rust, being a Chicago van.

I do notice that Ford parts are not any cheaper than BMW parts and repair. Most of the time, they cost more than BMW parts. That was quite a surprise to me.

I have an Explorer and sold a 90 Aerostar with 219K on it to get my E30. Only had to replace the tires twice, battery once and the water pump once. New owner headed cross country right after he bought it.

I found the Explorer board through Yahoo under cars/models/ford, etc. Helpful, but more into what's it worth to you to fix the radio for $79.00.

I'd search for Ford Taurus and check out some sites.

The Ford Taurus gets my vote for the worst manufatured car in history.. exceeding the unreliablity of the Edsil... period!

Have your friend drive it into the bad part of town, pull the plates, and walk.

He/she will come out ahead.. even if its new.

Probably the best thing he could do with it. Sadly, until he's out of school he cannot af(ford) a better car.

Friends don't let friends drive Taurus's despite what that website may say!

Fords are weird. Some suck, but others will last a long time depending on how you treat them.

My family had a '92 Ford Escort 5spd for 11 years and 168K mi. Clutch was sorta funny by the end, but the only thing that ever broke was the timing belt at ~110K mi.
Another '91 Mercury Tracer wagon auto lasted 12 years and 135K mi until the tranny started acting up. Also only needed a timing belt at about ~90K mi, and had annoying, habital headlight and A/C problems.
This is way longer than we expected out of them. And atleast when the Ford timing belts broke, we didn't have to buy new engines.

My friend's mom drives a '95 Taurus with over 140K mi. No serious or expensive repairs, despite at least 8K mi driven by my friend. Those 8K mi equal roughy 30K mi with a responsible person behind the wheel, if you know what I mean. We took it up to 115mph multiple times. I can't believe that thing still runs and drives well.

I'd still never buy a Ford personally, but I've been surprised at what my friends and family have gotten out of theirs.
Also, my parents currently own a 2002 Ford Focus 5spd and a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport. I doubt I'll ever convince them to buy a bimmer.

They're too afraid to drive my bimmer. They think they'll break it or something. Stupid Ford loyalists...

Ford 'DOES' seem to have a certain 'Mc Donalds' quality about them..

Look at the new low-end Jaguar. It looks like a taurus. Everything they touch, turns into a 'Big Mac'.

How long will it be before the new Volvo's reflect that special 'McAutomobile' look..?

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Ford also announce that they are going to discontinue the recently debuted (1999) Ford Thunderbird ? Sales dropped considerably... just like the Excursion excursion.

Yeap, the Thunderbird will spend more time waiting to die than it was alive. In addition to poor sales (I think they would be a hit if they started $5-10K lower) they had quality issues the first couple years.

Although I drive Dodge trucks for a living, occasionally I drive the Boss's Silverado, I think Ford pickups are the best in the business.
I wonder where Markf's negatives are from.
