1995 525i:
I just received a full 60,000 mile service (non-BMW service center), including flush & fill of the coolant. I drove away, and the temperature gauge climbed up to red, and the system notified me of "Coolant Level", "Owners Manual". The service center is closed today (Sunday), and I would like to have had the car for this weekend. When I pulled over, I carefully opened the reservior, and about a quarter-gallon of the new coolant overflowed. Even with that amount out, the car is still overheating. The level in the reservior looks correct now, but there's still something wrong. Any suggestions?

David,

It may be that the service center did not "burp" the cooling system. Most BMW engines need to be purged of trapped air after a coolant drain and refill. Most sixes have a 1/4 inch slotted head set screw on the top of the water pump. This screw is kept open until coolant flows out of it, while coolant is being poured into the radiator or expansion tank.
