I hear a slight clunk from under my 97 528i automatic while stopping and also while starting from a stop...transmission folks say that the recently rebuilt GM tranny is OK
What could be wrong |

I had a similar experience on my 325 a few years ago. The noise was cuased by a slightly loose transmission. |

Two other possibilities:
1. Locator pins between the trans and bell housing. Sometimes not replaced properly, or at all.
@. Guibo joint on back of trans either split, or not R/R correctly: before removing the bolts, you must compress the rubber donut until the bolts are free, and leave the clamp in place when replacing the joint.
Otherwise, the joint will suffer stresses. |
