OK......I just completed rebuilding the top-end of my 1986 325e, 2.7l. New head, all gaskets, timing belt, water pump..you name it. Runs quiet and strong and leak-free.
Problem.....the idle is erratic! When I start it hot or cold it high idles at 3000rpm and then after 20-30secs revs between 900 and 1500rpm. Here is what I have tried....I replaced the idle control valve(I had this problem once before and this fixed it), replaced the idle control unit (little brain under passenger side dash)....still revs. Does anyone have any other ideas. I love this freakin' car and want tp keep it, but every red light I came up to people think I want to race. It can't be good for the engine, clutch or gas mileage.
Any help would be forever appreciated. |

I suggest you recheck that idle control unit. Did you replace it with a new one? They are real failure items for these cars, aren't they? |

Finally found the problem. The two-pronged electrical connector that attaches to the Idle Control Valve had bad connections. A little flux and solder later and it runs beautifully.
Thanks to all that replied to help. |
