The battery light is supposed to tell you that the Alternator is not charging the battery. If it is on with the key removed, somehow the light is finding a way to ground. If it all started when you put the cell phone charger in the lighter maybe you caused a short somehow. If the charger is still installed take it out. Any changes? Next I would pull the fuse to the ligher see if that changes anything. If not, maybe disconnect the battery and see if that solves it. Before you disconnect the battery, if you still have the factory radio installed, you will need the code to get the radio back on. There may also be a relay that is stuck. Don't have my bentleys with me so I can't check that for you. May be a question to call the dealer and ask. good Luck

My guess would be that the diodes in the alternator are shot. Rebuilt alternator is in your future.
