Does it start fairly quickly?
Have you checked the alternator belt for tightness? _________________ Lachssilber Metallic 203 1988 325i sedan with 200,xxx miles

Yes it almost always starts right up. The belts are brand new - just replaced.
You think it could be the battery? Maybe after a few minutes it gets charged up enough by the alternator and the problem goes away?
I'm at a loss. _________________ 1984 325e 5-speed coupe

Have you cleaned the screen, flap, etc, in the afm? Clean with carb/fi cleaner or rubbing alcohol. Access the interior screen by cutting "cover" sealant with box cutter, pop out lid with small screwdriver. Re-seal lid with RTV silicone.
Clean flap hinges with toothbrush, then a dab of either wd-40 or lithium grease on spring/hinges.
It sounds like something is "sticking" or "flatspotting" under certain loads?
Try googling "Bosch AFM Montronic for Porsche 944" for more info on afm. There's even a youtube on it.
I understand rough running/idle problems from afm are usually in the "lower" loads/rpm ranges.

No I have not tried that and being that a new/reman one costs about $650 minimum for my '84 I'm not sure I want to risk it. _________________ 1984 325e 5-speed coupe

you should be able to find a used known working one just to eliminate that as a possibility. I've seen them for $50 or so.

Well, last year the steering rack gave out and I have not driven the car. Revisiting this, I see my comment about the cost of the MAF sensor. Looking at Rockauto and other sites, I don't understand why I came up with that number. Cardone models go for around $150, and nobody is selling more than one type for the 1984 325e.
I seem to recall, however, that there was a cutoff date for the MAF model required. I think mine is the older one, as the car was built in May of 1984. Anyone else recall this info? _________________ 1984 325e 5-speed coupe

So I started the car today. First time in too long. It fired right up without complaint. I backed it outband tried turning while stopped. The rack groaned and whined, then, it STOPPED that and started working!! No PSF leak or bubbles in the tank! It's magic I tell ya.
And the car didnt stall either. But the blinkers dont work. You can operate them manually but otherwise the lights come on the dash but dont blink. Same with the hazards.
Never ending. And where is everybody? _________________ 1984 325e 5-speed coupe

Here sometimes! I had to move and where I ended up, I don't have a garage and the environment is eating the car up... It's so disturbing!
