1997 328i. Can not afford it. Noisy muffler more toward rear of car. Where is the best place to repair it!! Can I still drive it? |

MJ, my muffler finally bit the dust. 245k mile on the original muffler, guess I can't complain too much.
Mine is all rusted out on the bottom of the muffler, and one of the dual exhaust tips fell off. Car sounds like a race car, so I'm not in a big rush to fix it !!
You need to get under the car to see where the leak/hole is. There is no harm is continuing to use the car. _________________ joe

what happens when you cannot pass emissions??? Which i already did . Car is really bad and I cannot afford a new car. Need to pass emissions before its registered |

well, you may be looking at repairs which cost more than the value of the car. Cat convertors for my wifes 528iT were in the thousands from BMW. I managed to buy aftermarket for I think $700, and paid a couple hundred to have them installed.
I would take the car to someone who knows BMWs. Often it's a collapsed vacuum line that is causing the failure.
Have you had it checked out?
