|
|
With fingers crossed and wood knocks, I am trying the alternative refrigerant. A "recharge kit" was ordered from automotive refrigerants, under $50 with shipping. Recharge kit included refrigerant, a leak stop and adapters, hoses. The drier, about $30, was also replaced.
Remaining r12 was downloaded to a local shop. Drier was replaced, with supplied o-rings. Fyi, expansion valve was replaced about 8 yrs ago. No obvious external oily leaks were found on current system.
The mechanic that helped me is "old school", and jumpered the compressor. Entire job took a bit less than 2 hrs.
It's been a few weeks and a couple of hundred miles, and I've got very cold air.
Thought I would give it a try.... time will tell, I guess.
