about 75% back together after the wreck.
but noticed something odd about my trunk light.
when I placed a bulb (LED) into the bulb slot, very quickly the bulb got warm and when I removed the bulb, the connector sparked. what's wrong with it?
the wire isn't damaged at all and went right up through the trunk lid fine.

Where'd you get the LED light for that? Do you know if it's an EXACT replacement for the trunk light? The spark isn't that weird as the end of the bulb probably made momentary contact and sparked.
Still, why go to LED? The trunk light doesn't wear out very much. I'd try the regular bulb in there... Can't remember if it's a bullet like bulb or a bayonette. _________________ Cosmo - 1985 BMW 325e, Single Owner, 265,000+ ORIGINAL miles and still going strong! Now I remember. About 10 years ago i replaced the trunk light and determined it's very badly designed. there is no cover for the bulb holder and as it goes into a bare metal hole in the trunk lid, there is a great chance of it shorting out and blowing the fuse.
after blowing 2 of them, I then placed some electrical tape around the opening, placed the bolb holder in place, then replaced the fuse.
But it certainly is badly designed.
I may have to construct a small covering for it.
The LED bulb I got at autozone. Very nice clear bright light now.
I can actually see much more of my trunk at night now.
