I have a 87 325i.....
Just had a problem arise......I have NO brakes....they were getting really spungie.....them when I would pump them the would come back.....but were soft....now nothing. I checked fluid...think the PO used coffee for fluid..LOL .. I replaced the master and booster with a pick a part special.....looked good, fluid clean .an the car was fresh stock. after install all was good now Im back to 0 brakes.
How common does a ABS unit go bad....especially with ugly fluid? ..... |

I would think if there is a problem with the ABS unit you would get a warning light.
I suspect that your used master is faulty.
Used parts are always a gamble _________________ Bob

Especially used brake parts, that's not an area to skimp on.
Buy good new parts for all brake work, Pelican has all the parts you need for good prices. _________________ http://www.unofficialbmw.com

With the engine running, apply pressure to the brake pedal (pump it up if necessary). If the pedal sinks to the floor as you hold pressure n the pedal, repeat a few times, then check for leaks at each caliper and soft line. If no leaks are found, replace the master cylinder.
Ait in the system will cause a soft pedal, even when all of the parts of the brake system are in good condition. To eliminate are use a pressure bleeder to push 250cc (measured) through one rear caliper, 150cc through the other rear caliper, and 150cc through each front caliper. That will completely flush the fluid and any air will be pushed out. _________________ NASA and BMW Certified instructor
