The car is 328is, 1997 with auto trany.
Does anyone know the torque spec on bolts of Oil Filter housing to an engine block? I would like to attack the project of replacing the gasket, as well as to see if the plugs are leaking this weekend. Any hints of doing this project will be appreciated. |

M8 bolts, class 8.8 are usually torqued to 20Nm.
M6 bolts, class 8.8 are usually torqued to 12Nm.
M10 bolts, class 8.8 are usually torqued to 35Nm. This will be the torque for the alternator thru bolts.
Cold engine, disconnect battery, clean the gasket seat (block and filter housing groove), replace the gasket and the compressible rings for the oil hose fitting.
Should take 2hrs, but get the gasket first. The dealer might not carry the thing in stock.
Good luck _________________

Yeah. Pretty easy job. Remove air filter box, remove alternator, remove bolts holding the power steering pump, then remove the housing. I've done it on four cars. _________________ 94 325IC (sold)/ 98 328IC (sold) / 98 318TI (sold)/ 99 M3 (e36) |
