Hello

I came across this forum scanning my way through the internet. I recently bought a 1985 BMW 518, and the sound of the engine worries me.
If anybody has some advice, id be glad.

When the engine is running idle, and when i get to higher revs, theres a slight ticking sound to the engine. Someone told me the injection system of that time could produce a ticking sound.
Does anybody know if thats true? if its not that i might have to adjust the valves, or look further then that.

some pictures of the car here:

Thanks in advance, Yogi

Yes, adjust the valves. Check the banjo bolt on the cam oiler pipe for being tight.

There is a tube on the top of the camshaft assembly that sprays oil on the cam. Either the front or rear bolt is hollow ( the six has the bolt at the rear position), to channel oil into the tube. The bolt loosens up over time, and oil pressure is lost.

BMW has a new-design bolt that has a Nylok insert, to prevent loosening up. Get one at your local dealer parts department.
