|

I dont know if anyone still checks this section or not, but hopefully its still frequented.
My mom has a 2000 Z3 2.3 roadster, and the door lock wont lock with the remote. Ive gone over the parts list for the door and the only electronic part that seems to have control over this is the actuator.
My question really comes to servicing this. Aside from disconnecting the battery to kill the power for namely the side airbag, is there anything special you need to do to get the door panel off without causing damage to or triggering the airbag?
The dealership quoted her like $500 or something completely outrageous (to me a non bmw owner) to replace the actuator, and being that Im no stranger to working on cars (albeit not BMW's) I found the actuator online through a BMW dealership for $72. I just want to make sure Im not biting off more than I can chew with doing this replacement myself since I will be visiting them soon for a few days.
Any hints or tips for pulling the door panel off, etc would be greatly appreciated. |

How do you know it's the actuator? It could be that the battery in the key is discharged. If not used frequently, it will lose charge. It can only be charged whilst in the ignition.
Have you tried the other master key?
Does the remote still unlock the trunk? If so, perhaps the actuator is bad.
Disconnect the negative lead of the battery before opening up the door. _________________
