Went to a writer's conference in Dohlenga. My 1st cousin one of the featured authors/speakers.
Beautiful, swervy, up and down 2 lane roads. Got there no problem. Road was closed on way back. Had to re-route, took a wrong turn, got lost.
Got on a 4 lane. Big scenic overlook, and I really had to pee. I'm about 2/3 done, a pick up pulls in behind me, this really weird looking guy jumps out of his truck, walks towards me. I told him rather firmly not to approach me. He started playing with himself. Sheesh!
I didn't see the sign that said "Fruit Loop" parking here.
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro...Hunter Thompson

LOL! any direction outside the city of atlanta in any direction, and you can hear the theme song from "The Deliverance"...in fact, it was shot in the North Georgia Mountains...go figure.

While you were in Dohlenga you should have asked for directions to Brasstown Bald and had a drive up to the highest point in the state. The elevation isn’t that impressive – 4000 and some few feet – but the road to the summit twists and turns tortuously …exactly like a 1/3 scale model of l’Alpe d’Huez. Not coincidentally, it also is the featured dueling ground for those of a mountain-climbing bent in each May’s Tour de Georgia professional bicycling stage race. I’ve been to many of the major bicycling races in Europe but the Tour de Georgia is still my favorite to visit. Definitely worth a visit. |

App. Foothills Parkway anin't bad, either. Hwy. 52? Aminicola St. Park?
Last week, no leaves on trees, no traffic. Had fun.
Bet it's a romp at 2am.
Been down the Chatuga. Saw where they filmed the "love scene".
Cycle tour comes to Chattanooga this year. Come on up!

I had to read the post twice. Um...didn't understand it the first time. Too weird for words. That's the kind of stuff I don't want to see once in my life. I drive cross usa quite a bit...and, frankly, I'm really real careful (as you were) where I make a relief stop.
For instance (no offense) Missouri. Weird. Especially as the sun sets on a Friday night. I just don't get outta my car. One Missouri afternoon there was one of these bearded weirdos pacing in front of an empty rest stop. Kept driving on through.
But I shouldn't pick on Missouri. In the interest of a quiet Forum I'll stop at this point.
Am very glad my E-36 318is has a 17.4 gallon fuel tank and on these long trips 31-33+mpg. That's 400+ miles till the reserve light comes on. And there's an additional 100+ miles left if I need it.
Am I getting too old for this?
ps...I sometimes stop at a b/b in Dixon Tenn..
Usually bring all my own food. Stop once per trip in a small town. Avoid any restourant without windows. That's a Texas and Oklahoma specialty. |
