Hey, Summer driving is coming up. Share a special section of roadway.
I highly recommend US 276 in Western North Carolina. Run it between Waynesville NC (just off I40) south, through my home community tucked in at the base of 'The' Cold Mtn. across the spine of the Blue Ridge Parkway. East or west on the Parkway is pretty rewarding. Continuing south on 276 is great stuff with some sweet hairpins and long steady tight turns. Pass Looking Glass Mountain (water running over a smooth curved upthrust face of granite) and Looking Glass Falls is right by the road. Sweet runs alongside creeks. In Brevard, east on 64 runs you to Hendersonville or Asheville. West on 64 is fantastic all the way to the end of NC (long drive)and down to Atlanta. One section has sheer dropoff beside the railing!! Many sweet waterfall locations ("The Land of Waterfalls") to stop at. Gorgeous vistas.
Staying on 276 south out of Brevard has more great twisty road with sweet valleys. This runs on down to Greenville SC. Just after getting into SC, before Greenville, Going east or west on SC11 is good stuff, too. |
