Here's an off topic question:
I heard that playing DVDs on the Sony Playstation 2 decrease the lifespan of the device.
Is this true ? My sons play PS2 games AND watch DVD on their box.

I don't see why playing DVD's would shorten the lifespan of the PS2. PS2 games nowadays are in DVD format. |

JRS, I'd have to agree. I have quite a few freinds on a college budget (like myself) who use their PS2's as DVD players all the time. None of them have had problems. If it is one of the original ones then you may want to think twice about it though. One freind had to have the laser replaced about 2 months after they bought it. The tech told him that they used the wrong power laser (or something) and they were prone to burning out. But Sony wasn't going to issue a recall. Kinda like the headbolt phenomenon pertaining to our E30's.
Hey, next time your in town be sure to check out Gene and Judes! The best hot dogs in Chicago! |

I bought the PS2 Christmast last year and my kids have just been using the 'heck' out of it. But if the DVD-side tends to break the console, then I'd rather buy one of those $29 Apex DVD players and have them use it to play their SpongeBob/X-Men Evolution/Zoids/Power Ranger DVDs. Someone give me a hand... I don't have enough fingers and toes to count how many times I've seen each of those DVDs.
But the good thing is: It keeps them 'busy' for 60-90 minutes. Enough time for me to read this forum and do some stock 'homework'.
Gene and Judes... I'll try them. Next visit to Chi-town will be in 2005. This year it's Florida. I visit Chi-town every 2-3 years.
