hi. just bought a used 2001 z3 2.5. the speedo is off about 10% at all speeds. the guy at performance bmw in chapel hill , n.c. told me this is normal for all bmw"s and cannot be calibrated. this seems odd to me. is this true? also , there is a high pitched whine a speed you can only hear with top up. they also said this is normal. car has 18,500 miles. i could use some help. thanks allen |

You mean your speedometer speedometer reads about 10% more than the actual speed. That is normal and is designed into the BMW system. There was a posting long time ago explaining why BMW engineered it that way. I have forgotten about it now. The odometer should read correctly though. |

The dealer told me the same thing. Mine is going 70 when the speedo reads 75. It seems to always be about 5 miles off on the high side |
