I own a 1995 740i. I love the car. Does anyone have experience in removing the starter. I cant determine if the motor mounts have to be loosened or something else needs to be removed to get clearance to remove the starter.

Last time I was under my 540i, it appeared that the starter was out in the open, just like other V8s.

Have you been under the car? At worst, I would expect that you'd have to remove the header on that side.

In any event, disconnect the Negative battery terminal before you do anyting else.
