Its been cold in the east my car is old 235,000.00 miles I cannot afford big fixes. Since last september when I would start it it would make a horrible loud noise and more noticable when I turned steering wheel. At times it sound like its grinding but once its warmed up its okay.. I have read up and possibly I need to put some fluid in it?? Can I just do that on this car if so where or is it a more complicated issue. Willing to try anything. Its ready for the dump but trying to hang in there as long as I can. Someone said I need a new power steering motor but I also read perhaps some fluid...

Per you description is sounds like your steering pump might be going bad or water pump is making this noise under load when cold. You really need to listen when happens to determine where the sound is coming from.
First check Steering Pump fluid. It should be per specified level and clear. If it is not clear, it must be replaced. Unfortunately Steering Pump is not under any maintenance and often is ignored. Therefore I wouldn't be surprises if your fluid is still original and never been replaced unless previous owner did it. I have done mine by myself as preventive maintenance. Use only Steering Pump fluid and nothing else.
Is Water Pump is going bad, replacement is required as bearing may freeze unexpectedly, causing overheating and permanent damage to engine.
Isolate where the noise is coming from and attack the problem in hand but check Steering Pump fluid first and replace it regardless.
