Is it possible to replace the front strut insert without disassembling the front end? I only want to change the strut insert- the springs, brakes, balljoints, etc., are all fine. Can I compress the spring and remove the upper strut mount and pull the strut out from the top? Or loosen the nut while the car is on the ground and then jack the car up to release the spring tension?
I've done the full job before and while it isn't difficult it is time consuming. I know, sounds lazy, and sort of hillbilly, but it would be an hours' work rather than most of a day...
Anyone tried this?
Thanks
Steve

No, it's not possible.

there is a way, but it involves more work...

1st, you'd need to have coil-overs and recently replaced upper mounts, a way to compress your springs (b/c parts could impale you), and remove the upper mount, and collar... at this point, you would've likely dinged the hell out of your fender (unless you took it off), and again, by this point, its actually easier to just remove both struts, replace the bushing that failed (they all probably did), press in new ones, and maybe even get new upper mounts.

its kinda like draining the oil of your engine by tipping it upside down b/c the filler cap is easier to reach, it will be 5 times more a pita.
