its a Gates timing belt
the PO was a dealer, who said the PO did replace it...(and it looks like its fairly new).

if yes, for how long ? (1, 2 or 3 years ? )

im at a point where $ is crunching, and i have other pressing issues over a new water pump

ps.
i do plan on getting a new water pump, (already have the new conti-tech belt and tensioner) when $ starts flowing again...
but at the moment, i have tight on cash, and want to address other things (like fuel lines, and brakes

i was just going in there to see if it was any different (its a 323i) from the eta/or i's, or any other models... as its is exactly like the i's.

after serious thought and research, found most t-belt failures to be the tensioner.
that tensioner didn't look brand new, and well, i just replaced it all.

got a new conti-tech belt and tensioner, and did a lot more while i was in there....
