If you have broken rear axle boots, it's a lot easier to swap in a whole new rear axle instead of changing the boots and greasing them.

If you are looking for used ones, the eta ones bolt into the 325i and vice versa. Watch out for 84/85 eta models without ABS, as you won't have ABS if you install one of them. Not sure if an ABS style axle works in the non-ABS car, it looks like it should.

Here is the resource for rear half-shafts, aka axles.

$52.79 with core supplied
$90.29 without core

A1-Cardone is the maker of the ones I use, I've had one on the front of my X5 for 40k miles with no noise, no leaks, no troubles.

BMW dealer if someone wanted to buy new factory part
Pelican has GKN rebuilts for $322.

BMW part numbers 33-21-1-225-893

This dealer sells that axle for $446 and $50 core charge

guessing (since i just replaced one a few months ago) that the non-abs type are missing a magnetic ring or something that mates up to the abs sensor ?

after i replaced mine, i also helped out Robert with a trailing arm swap...that was a bit of fun too.

The toothed wheel section of the outer CV assembly is what the pickup reads to tell the ABS computer how fast that wheel is turning. When it measures that wheels speed against the other 3 wheels, it knows when one wheel is going much slower then the others.
