Did I miss anything? I left out the A/C belt on purpose since that doesn't work anyway (yet).

after you install all that, you may want to replace the plug wires, coil and distributor cover.

and btw, although kind of late now but in the future, you may want to compare prices with the dealer. You might be surprised at the difference in prices.

Try http://www.autohausaz.com/ I buy most of my stuff there. they have oem and oem supplier parts. Although now they are carrying the cheap URO brand parts. so watch out for those.
Always had good service and the prices are the best I've found.

I just did major clutch/driveline work. Most I got from Autohaus and some from Bav Auto. They had a good price on a clutch kit.

I'm not sure you want to tackle the crank seal and the intermediate shaft seal. they can be a real bear. Most people let those go unless they are absolutely leaking.
The cam seal is a common failure as well as the o ring for the seal housing.

How about a thermostat as well? And I'm pretty sure you'll be doing a second order. There's always something you bump into along the way.....

If I still lived in CA I would try the dealer. Or Dinan. Anyone have experience with e30 parts thru Sharpe BMW in Grand Rapids?

Some of the best deals on parts come from PelicanParts.com. I've been buying from them for years now, and their service, as well as their prices, are superb.

BavAuto is great, but they're expensive.

I will keep that in mind. I've had such good luck with Bavauto that I've been reluctant to shop around (much). And bad luck with other local retailers such as NAPA and Autozone (for this car).

And to be honest, that air filter is cheaper from them than the special order from Autozone. I got all that stuff for $260 with free shipping and I bought that timing belt tensioner which is like $28 because I thought I MIGHT need it. Any of that stuff I don't use is going back.

Sounds like you're doing a great job keeping your E30 in great shape. I agree that the local stores of national chains don't do a good job on E30 parts.

I've been buying everything from Pelican for the last 5 years or so.
With Pelican, you know exactly which manufacturer you are getting when you buy the part for $X. My experience with Bavauto is that the price looks good, but you may not get the best supplier for a given part, since they don't list supplier.

Is there a trick to searching that Pelican site? I have trouble finding what I'm looking for as well as specific to my vehicle.

They have all E30 in 1 section, then drill down to something like engine, and they'll list, for example 5 different valve cover gaskets, M10 for early 318i, M20 325e/325i, S14 for M3, M42 for late 318i.

I don't use their search feature much, just go to the section that you need for E30 and browse around.

I do it differently... I get the part number from the ETK or RealOEM.com, and just paste it into the search box... Never fails...

Yes...realoem.com, then search by part number in Pelican's website. I generally use the 3 day shipping option for $3. Most often, I receive parts here in NC in 2 days, all the way from CA, wow! I have placed dozens of orders with Pelican in the past 5 or 6 years or so, and have never been disappointed.

I find that some of Pelican's parts are a tad more expensive, but the extraordinarily fast shipping is worth it.

I also order parts from Tomkinson BMW in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I always check them out, especially if I don't need parts in a rush:

I like Pelican as well. They're customer service over the phone is outstanding.

But I also order from bavauto and I like eeuroparts too.

But to be honest, I mostly prefer the local dealership.

They're very responsive, give great advice, and with the club membership, they're prices in almost every instance is the best.

They will even order the euro version of parts if you ask them to.

I've found Sharpe BMW to be honest but expensive for parts. I used to let them do some service on my e30 and have purchased some parts there.

I'm also in West Michigan (live in Holland-work in GR) and have a limited number of spare parts lying about from my daughters 1989 325iX which she totaled. Most of the stuff is gone and what remains is being sold quickly to make room for my Garage-Mahal project. Cheap too.

Let me know if you need anything and I'll take a look. Here's my perpetual CraigsList listing: http://grandrapids.craigslist.org/pts/3130381806.html

Thanks!

Thanks for that! I actually bought the car from Sharpe back in 1984. It was a demo with 4500 miles on it, and the prettiest e30 they had. My Mom liked my car so much she bought one (four door auto), and totaled on black ice within a couple months.

You know I think I've seen you on the road (16th street just before 196). I live in GR and work in Holland. Probably flashed my lights at you once or twice over the years.
