this is not specific to bimmers. I bought some rain-x blades and they rumble pretty loudly on the backswing.

Has anyone ever sanded the blade to quiet them? or any other remedy?

Try wetting the windshield down and see how they do with lubrication before you try altering them at all. They may be just so well fitted that they're binding on the dry windshield...

well I was told to try alcohol, (cleaning the wiper blades... not imbibing!)

and it actually works!

May not be permanent. but they are perfectly quiet now.

M... are you using Rain-X on your windshield? If so, the wipers always grip on that for some reason, especially when it's dry out, and stutter...

no rain-x used.

it was just new blades and they rumbled every time. Cleaned with alcohol and no more rumble.

I've been using the PIAA Super Silicone blades on my cars for a while now and they are the best wipers I've ever used. They've lasted about 4 years on my X5 and I don't know how many miles.

Expensive but they last so much longer then normal blades they are worth it.

For blades that are chattering, try something that will get the old rubber off the blade surface, like a paper towel with windshield cleaner on it.
Keep wiping until it the towel doesn't have a black streak on it.

went to the stealer (in this case ford/mercury) bought their wipers and blades (less than 20 bucks!) and rumble is gone now...permanantly.

i found the cheapest blades at walmart work perfectly for periods longer than 6 months, and in my truck, its been at least a year.

i have a spare set, jik, but haven't needed them *yet

used to be 1.88 for each blade, now i think its up to 2.88 each...
