I've owned a '98 328is since 2000: It has 151K miles. It's a rare bird in that it was built in Germany and converted for US use over there (it was purchased over there by a guy in the military). 5 speed, Morea green--great car. I've always been very attached to it.

My brother has owned a '97 M3 since 1999. It now has about 80K miles. He is getting a new 5 series and is looking to unload the M3. He is resigned to the fact that the book value is very low and also that he won't recoup his investment in the sound system. It's a very high-end system with bi-amps and subs, the whole bit.

He was willing to let me take the sound system and put it in the 328, but now he's suggesting that I just get rid of the 328 and take the M3.

This isn't about $$ @ all since neither car is worth much at this point.

My question is just whether or not the M3 is that much superior to the 328is that I should consider this proposition. The M3 is black and very clean.

since you know the history on the M3 I would definitely do it. I think the biggest question mark with buying a used M3 is not knowing if the previous owner abused it.

yes, the M3 is worth it. At least, you can get another 100K miles out of it.
