2000 E39

Looking at purchasing a diagnostic software 'system' now, before I have a real need to buy one, then buy in panic.

What would be nice is a system that can be connected to my laptop in some way or another. I've seen the handheld units that display a code that needs to be cross-referenced either in a manual or on the 'net. Seems there is a better way to get the info, if given the right technology.

I've also seen the CarMD on TV - no thanks.

Does the E39 produce any 'special' info via the OBD II connector?

TIA for the info.

Bob
