My '94 325is manual trans car started running poorly. Highly maintained 75K. I have a friend who works at the Stealership who came over and diagnosed (using a mechanics stethoscope) a non functioning injector #4. Got replacement injector installed / same problem
Pulled the DME and checked the PIN outputting to injector #4. No voltage drop meant faulty DME.
After a boatload of research including speaking with 3 BMW parts dept and Programa (company that rebuilds DME's) I learned that any #413 DME should work for my car. There are about 5 part #'s preceding and 7 after the number of the faulty DME. Found a nice red label DME 413 on eBay for $135
Installed and car seemed to run perfect, that is until it warms up. Now runs even worse, popping and smells rich out the exhaust. Mechanic says its almost certainly the DME just with another issue than the original. (Injector 4 now working fine)
Car idles better and does not stall just pops at idle and stutters between 1600 and 3000 rpm.
Any suggestions?? Certainly I can get another DME and try that
I did check for vacuum leaks using carb cleaner and also cleaned my Air Mass with special spray for that purpose prior to the DME swap.
Thanks and Aloha |
