|
|
Hello all. Long time no speak! My last E30 no longer exists, for about 9 years now. My goal is another E30, since i have never gotten rid of that bug.
A quick "I am still alive" post after a LOONG time of inactivity.....
.... and also wondering how many good E30s are around for when i go to shop for another. I am also older now..
I am still partial to the 86, but can someone please run down what a 1987 or 1988 "Super ETA" is and how they compare to a normal ETA? Been some time. |

a lot of people prefer the 87 325i abovet the rest. (1st year of the 885 head)
the 'i' series can rev up to 6500-7000k, far above the e, and has the most power
larger rear wheel arches (or wider..i forget)
non-airbag
ellipsiods (late 87 or just 88, 89 years)..then back to halogen...ellipsiods are best.
and so on.
others prefer the plastic bumpers look, or the mtech 2 series...i prefer the euro alloys or mtech1.
slick tops are a 1 year thing (afaik) and very rare and collectable, the 318is...extremely light car, and with a 2.5 swap is most trackable. (lowest point of gravity)
LSD differentials are a very valuable option (i would pay extra for it)
and there should be a timing belt history, as they are scheduled to change every 4 years, or 40,000miles..breakage may destroy the engine..
the 4bangers dont have belts, but also don't have the power either.
heres a wiki on bmw 3 series, and other links to the e30 too. _________________

The 1988 only Eta is known as the Super-ETA, it has the eta's 2.7L bottom end and the cyl head from the 325i. Fuel injection is similar to that on the 325i, Motronic 1.1, unique intake manifold.
I think the redline is about 5300 vs 4500 for normal eta.
Lots of info on upgrading an eta engine here and specs on the super-eta
