It goes by many names, but part no. 13311713470 (pulsation dampener / fuel dampener / "connection piece") , the one directly ahead of my Fuel Pressure Regulator, is leaking fuel.
As noted here, here, and here, it's supposed to be safe to delete. AutohausAZ doesn't even carry it, and the forms I read say it's prone to leaking and not really necessary -- but I might hear a buzzing sound from the fuel pump?
Is anyone else running without this dampener? Does removal cause buzzing?
On a related note, the vacuum line from the FPR was braided-covered rubber, fraying and braking -- so I replaced it with the 1.8mm ID rubber vacuum hose (with no braided cover) that I had used for other vacuum lines. Because it's so close to fuel, do I need the braided or is the plain rubber OK? The OEM part is $14 and AutohausAZ has this but it doesn't seem to match.

You can remove the dampers. I doubt you'll hear the difference.
Plain rubber should be fine for the FPR line. _________________ http://www.unofficialbmw.com

Ok, I removed the dampener by the FPR and replaced the fuel filter, the idle is definitely smoother. I can hear the fuel pump from outside the car, it sounds like a cross between a metallic buzz and high-pressure liquid leaking. It's pretty subtle though, I doubt I'll ever notice it from inside the car. I also doubt anyone else will notice, it's just that I'm pretty in-tune with my 318's sound.
