I just bought a beautiful '88 535 5spd. My '01 740il trans died and car is tied up in divorce , so i bought this beauty for less than a new trans for 740.
The speedo and all guages work fine but odometer and trip odo dont function. Any ideas?
This is my 9th BMW, I wont buy anything else.

There is a plastic gear in the odo that splits, and it must be replaced. You'll need to search with Google or ebaY for the vendor of replacement gears. If you are handy, you can fix this.

Be sure to adjust the valves, and tighten the banjo bolt on the oil squiter bar.

Replace all the precious bodily fluids.

Great car, and you have a rare example. I love the body style.
