Getting ready to pass this 87 325 eta on to my nephew and thought I'd post a list of all the stuff I ended up doing to the car:

• All of this work done at approx 142k miles in 2010 between April and August
• Emissions test done, another needed in April 2012 (may not be needed due to car being 25 years old before then, check with Department of Licensing)
• 1987 325 142k miles
Mobil 1 10w30 high miles oil, Bosch oil filter, checked today at 144k miles, still on full mark and the oil looks pretty clean, go for 6k mile oil changes, 148k, 154k, 160k, etc.
• Installed new Mahle air filter, replace at 174k miles(30k mile intervals)
• Note: use only German brands Mahle or Mann or Knect filters, don’t use the American Fram/STP/etc (they are crap)
• changed transmission fluid using Redline MTL, change again at 174k miles
• changed differential fluid using Mobil 1 75w90, change again at 174k miles
•
• inner control arm ball joint shot, good used control arms installed
• new control arm bushings installed
• good used motor mounts installed
• good used turn signal lens installed
• good used fog lights installed
• good used sway bar ends installed
• good used steering rack installed
• new tie rods installed
• New timing belt/tensioner on motor
• fixed water pump leak, kept existing low mileage water pump
• installed new drivers side control arm bushing
• installed new hood roundel
• fixed tachometer, reflowed soldier joints
• bleed the brakes and the clutch
• new rear seatbelt buckle
• replaced rear brake pads with new pads
• adjusted parking brake at the drum
• flushed brake fluid with ATE Blue
• fixed sunroof crank handle
• installed BMW Motorsport 3spoke leather steering wheel
• Replaced fuel lines and plastic T-fitting with correct German high pressure fuel line
• good spare tire in trunk
• installed all-season tires on bottle cap wheels
• spring on clutch pedal broken, replaced spring assembly
•
• found incorrect and broken transmission mounts, replaced with new ones from
• install good steering rack to solve leak
• fixed leak in PS hose
• fixed gas door latch mechanism
• fixed coolant warning light

Holy S&!T... I thought you loved that car! You did a TON of work on it, and now it's being passed down? Yikes Dale! Don't forget that great low end torque!!!

Still, your cabrio looks incredible with the new blue top...

Oh well lol!

Yah, I do love the eta, but I have too many cars already, it had to go.
That's OK, it's not going far, and my nephew won't be driving the rusty Honda with bald tires any more.

I paid $3000 for it in 2001. If I hadn't recently bought another "second" car, I'd seriously consider buying it back...for the same price!!

Good job, Dale. Glad it's going to someone who needs it.

BTW...I sure miss driving a stick - especially that one. Smile

Woah, nice car man! Reminds me of my Cosmos Blau Metallic 86 Smile

Your nephew is lucky to have someone who passes a car along like that!

Thought I'd follow up on this story, I picked up a 2.93LSD from Greg (E30 540 V8 swap guy in Seattle area) last fall, and gave it to my nephew for Christmas. A few days later we installed it together, that was fun, he's done lots of car maint stuff, used to work at a Honda dealer changing oil and stuff.

I also loaned him a set of snow tires on bottle caps so they can drive through the winter without any trouble with getting stranded in the freak Seattle snow we've been getting.

Now the downside, the clutch was never super strong in this car, now it's getting weaker. Looks like a clutch job is in the near future...
