In the near future, will probably put the beloved 90 325i into "semi-retirement". Think it is time to look at an auto-trans 4 cyl vehicle. Think I can afford about 8k on a "decent" vehicle. However, am a bit leary of automatic trannys.

Been manually shifting gears for...40+.. years. Think it time to get automatic?, And, I will need something I can carry guitars, etc,.. and maybe some light camping gear?

Thinking on a decent daily driver that doesn't need restoration. Hope to spend my limited funds wisely?

The e30 will, to my thinking, will "go under the canopy".... I do appreciate driving/using it. It has been an "ongoing" restoration project, and, excepting a paint job, is pretty damn good. A good car that I hope to enjoy for a long time...

So, if you have an opinion as to what woud be a suitable vehicle for about 8k, I would apprecitate your suggestion.

Thanks! and a Happy New Year!

carefull on storage, as Robert went to see a "mint-low mileage" e30 garage queen,
as the seller opened the door, a family of mice scattered.

as far as new cars, its up to you.
i like my 88 toyota 4x4, and think it ll hold up forever.
but aut0s, i would suggest a mercedes or cadallac, since i don't think they even make manual trannys for them. so logically, and by default, the auto would be the only way to go.

might suggest "consumer reports" before buying anything these days.

Found: An 01 Accord sedan, 4 cyl autom 155k. Great service records. 1 owner, belonged to a co-worker.
A few dings, but, paint, body pretty good. Interior good. $5k.

Trans was replaced on factory recall 56k ago.

Door locks sometimes stick, but driver door always works.
Interior trunk release don't work.

Will place the 90i into semi-retirement. Will be kept under a sidewalled outdoor canopy. Just did the sfb last weekend... it's driving, running great!

Can't go wrong with a Honda or Toyota. Excellent value for the money.

As far as parking the E30. Better use some mothballs. you'll be sorry if you don't and mice move in rather quickly. Don't ask how I know. Long story and hard lesson learned.

Mothballs now on the shopping list. Thanks for the heads up! ... or, is that feets up?

Might go up to "Tail of the Dragon" country (East tenn, NC line, lots of twisties) early Father's day Sun for coffee. There's a bmw gathering near there this weekend...RV 3 unlimited? Getting over a nasty cold, don't think camping a good idea.

Think the Accord will do just fine. C/O the tranny and PS juice, cleaned engine (I like Wesley's tire cleaner!!), fixed the clock lamp... doing the detailing thing. Does well for what it is... it ain't no E30!

Some googling led to: Mothballs under the car, as in a soda can with rocks in it, so it won't get blown away by wind. One for engine, one for rear.
Aroma is supposed to help keep mice, chipmunks, etc, away.

Mothball smell is hard to remove from interior.

Bounce fabric softener sheets: In the air intake, and a few in the interior. Reportedly helps keep out insects as well as repell vermin.

and top it off by growing a bunch of Tanacetum genus around your garage.
