Rebuilding E30 Front calipers. ATE calipers pictured, Girling/Lucas/TRW calipers are similar.
All rear E30 calipers are ATE.
Front E30 calipers are either Girling or ATE, Girling seems to be more common. Easy way to identify the caliper is look for the name Girling on the caliper, or it is Girling if it has 13mm bolts mounting the caliper.
If it has allen head bolts, it is ATE. The mounting brackets are different so you'll need that bracket if you want to swap from one type to the other.

1 Liter ATE Gold brake fluid, or other high quality BMW approved brake fluid.
Remove caliper from car
Clean caliper, use steel brush to help get grime off
Remove outer dust seal
Put a small block of wood where pads go, use compressed air to pop piston out
Remove cylinder wall seal
Clean piston and cylinder wall
If these are heavily scored, you may need replacement parts
Dry all solvent or cleaners off the parts
Install cylinder wall seal
Coat cylinder wall and piston with brake fluid
Install dust boot on bottom of piston
Put bottom ridge of dust boot in place at the top of the cylinder
Gently put the piston evenly into the cylinder, the seal on the cylinder wall will stop it
Place the caliper gently in a vice(use rag or wood for cushion)
Expand the dust boot half-way up the piston
Use a soft-face pliers to twist the piston past the cylinder wall seal
Seat the top of the dust boot in the ridge in the piston
Push the piston the rest of the way into the cylinder
ATE rebuild kit label:
ATE front calipers disassembled and cleaned:
Install rubber seal in cylinder, and rubber boot on piston towards the bottom of the piston:
Angle the lower lip of the rubber boot into the groove above the cylinder
These shots show damage on the cylinder wall, since it's not part of the seal area, I would use this, if you have doubts, get a different caliper.
Girling calipers have the 2x 13mm bolts for mounting.
