I've just revived my '85 635CSi after a 4+ year slumber. The M30 runs very well for having basically no tweaking, yet, but I'd like to check out the 'Banjo Bolt' on the valve train before I go much further. I've had no indication that there is anything wrong...no ticking, squealing, smoking...nothing, but I've heard so much about that possibility on these threads that I can't proceed before I check that out. So, will somebody here please read me the drill, and remedy, that will put my mind at ease? Direction to a hands-on website would be appropriate, or just word by word instruction here would be welcome. Thanks,

Brick

Well-known problem. The rear bolt is the culprit. It loosens up, and the oil spray is greatly reduced. Just pull the cylinder head cover and check it. The front bolt is just that.

Adjust the valves whilst you're in there.

BMW has issued a Nylock banjo bolt. It has a circle embossed on the head of the bolt. Good idea to fit one.

Get a new gasket, too, whilst you're there.
