I wouldnt worry about using second, its just annoying but its not really going to hurt anything. No way would I want to be outside right now either!

I didnt grind the shifter at all, by flatten I meant with a BFH.

Razz b.f.h. huh. Razz i got the image in my head, but wont be able to swing it like i would want to. (sometimes more than others).

i will see what i can do w/some b.f.vicegrips

RAISED the car today, and it clearly hits the middle of the selector rod. so no danger of anything falling off, but i would be worried if there was sparks flying.

i will buy another selector rod, or bend the shape out of this one. it looks like the selector rod is hallow, and i should be able to just pinch it together (with my b.f.vicegrips). - anyone do this Question

basically what I did with the BFH. I took it off the car to use the hammer though and shape it after I realized it was still rubbing after I tweaked it a little.

I dont think you will be able to do this with teh rod in the car. Luckily you can remove it without removing the driveshaft so its not a huge deal.

If you look at the link I sent earlier, it shows how to bend the rod to avoid the rubbing.

thanks,

i have read that (and many other pages) and have already completed the project.

also, the turnout seems to get better w/mileage.= i really like the shifter more now (after about 100+miles) and its less notchy, and i am very used to it.

gears are easier to find, and reverse is more responsive.

thanks for all the links and help everyone.
