Hi All - My 325i has started overheating in heavy traffic. I had the thermostat changed a few weeks ago, but the problem is back. I'm told it could be the resistor switch??? that is located on the fan cowling. I am not totally convinced as it does work intermittently, which leads me to think it could be the wiring or poor contacts - (btw, a new unit is ZAR6500). Can anyone shed some light or post a fix?

You're suggesting that your radiator fan doesn't come on. Is it not coming on when the temperature goes past the middle of the temp gauge?
Make sure there's no air in the system and the coolant level is up to the appropriate mark on the float inside the radiator stopper. |

Hiya
There are times when it does not come on at all and therefore in slow traffic it does overheat. I just pull over and let the engine cool down. On the flip side, there are times when the fan does kick in and work normally, but this is not often.

Sometimes it helps to check out the obvious. I decided to check out the fan switches and gave them thorough cleaning out with WD 40. The following day, I left the car idling for an hour to see if there was any change, and sure enough the fan seems to be working properly again. I still need to check it out under heavy traffic again,  |
