Is it me, or does changing the air filter on an E46 318Ci need a lot of effort? Has anybody done this, and if so can you provide any tips?

It seems to me that you have to undo the two bolts that hold the filter housing down in the engine bay, then disconnect the whole housing from the intake manifold (which involves undoing the large rubber house and a sensor), before finally undoing the screws from underneath on the housing itself to lift the lid.

Is this right, or am I missing something basic?!
