so...
is there any way to get around that darn MAFS? im constantly adjusting it to keep the car running. i tighten the spring and it shuts off, i loosen the spring it gets stuck open and shuts off. is there any way at all to get arouns this mass airflow sensor? and everytime i turn on the car i have to keep it reved up for about 30 sec. just so it can idle without shuttin off _________________ 1985 318i |

What leads you to believe the problem is the AFS? You should never have to adjust that.
Could be your idle control valve.
Take that off, (takes about 10 seconds to remove) clean it with carburator cleaner and reinstall. That might be your whole problem right there.
I had similar symptoms, and I replaced the AFS, which didn't cure the problem.
After cleaning the idle control valve, it now feels like a brand new car. _________________ Lachssilber Metallic 203 1988 325i sedan with 200,xxx miles

yea, thanks but i cleaned that idle control valve. i just dont like the mass airflow sensor cuz it robs your car from alot of HP and i mean alot, it also gives the car a slow throttle response _________________ 1985 318i |

It really shouldn't be doing any of that. It measures the airflow, and keeps the car running efficently. perhaps you have a bad AFS.
Have you ever bought a used one and replaced it?
that might improve your idle.
Getting rid of your AFS would involve getting rid of your electronic fuel injection as well as other engine components.' Not sure you want to get into that can of worms. Might as well drop a whole new engine in. _________________ Lachssilber Metallic 203 1988 325i sedan with 200,xxx miles
