My 2003 BMW 530 has developed a squeaky fan when I turn the heat on low. If I crank it up to a higher fan speed then typically the creak goes away. The problem is a little inconsistent but has now happened numerous times.

I still have 5 months left on my warranty so any ideas on what to tell the dealer when I bring it in? Guaranteed it doesn't make the noise when I have it in there.

I'd explain it to them, and make sure it's on the service order form. This may give you some leverage when it breaks after the warranty period.

Most likely motor brushes, and less likely motor bearings. But, the motor is not cheap, so best to try getting it fixed by them.

Does the noise only appear when the car and/or the outside is cold?

Interesting comment about "when it breaks after the warranty period". My experience is that the day after the warranty expires BMW won't be interested. They'll say "it lasted the x yrs that it was warranted to last".
