If I am seriously considering turning my 85' 325e into a track car such as SpecE30 and learning to drive competitivly, I assume I will not want to put a turbo on my car?

I have all this turbo stuff but I am thinking I would rather have the balance and control of a well built N/A engine. My short block is going to kick much arse and strong as an ox. I want to keep it simple and have that eagerness of an engine thats ready to go all the time.

I am assuming this is how I get started in it all:

http://nasaproracing.com/

I am open to any and all advise for someone who wants to get started.

I also found this http://unsage.com/ to be a fun and interesting site as well.

Thanks,

Well I have been reading the SpecE30 manual and I am so totally disqaulified already. My new custom pistons are out of spec on 2 counts (bore and compression ratio, my chip and diff are not allowed as well, including the header I have paid for already.

I didn't realize SpecE30 was so strict.

So what other competitive class(s) should I be looking into?
Something a little less limited in the modification department.

Yup, welcome to racing. Some classes are very restrictive, and others are limited only by your wallet. A lot of racers want to be in restrictive class as it wil be cheaper to run (believe me, it's plenty expensive as it is), and easier to be competitive when you're not competing against the next guys wallet.

Check with your local sanctioning bodies (SCCA, NASA, etc.) and see what classes are open to your car, and what's allowed to be done for each class. Up here in the NW, I can an E30 in EIP, RS, or ITE. All of those would be more open than Spec E30. Read the rules, talk to as many people who run locally as you can, and decide where you will be most happy with what you want to do to the car.

Actually, you could complete the car as an SCCA ITA car with the items you already have. At that prep level, you could race SCCA, BMWCCA, NASA, and probably VDCA. In other words, all the racing you could possibly want in a season!!! Been there, doing that. Chuck

...or with the GTS series with NASA. They have very limited rules, & separate into classes based on power/weight ratio. You can check them out at gtschallenge.com.

Actually, at SCCA level of prep, you are at a disadvantage racing NASA. Because of the recent torque factor in figuring horsepower to weight, you will be classed with the "i" cars at a significant disadvantage. If I choose to run NASA this year, I will run in PS2: a class that is specifically for ITA cars. Chuck
