Sunday afternoon was ICSCC racing, http://www.icscc.com, in Mission, BC, http://www.sccbc.net/
The local Pro3 and SportBMW E30 BMWs competed in Group1.

For Pro3, Greg Miller started off the weekend running a 1.28 time, and got it down to a 1.26 time Sunday morning. Peter Jenkin started the weekend with a high 1.25 time and got into the 1.24s on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, on Saturday evening Peter held the fastest qualifying time so far that weekend. I started with a 1.25 time on Saturday and did mostly 1.24 times on Sunday qualifying, but managed one quick 1.23 time on Sunday qualifying, setting a new Pro3 lap record for Mission and taking Pole Position for the race.

As I was headed to the hot pits for the start of the race Sunday afternoon, someone stopped me as I drove down there with "Dude, you've got a flat tire!", What?? Note to self: check tires before getting in car!! I drove back to my pit area, and called to several friends who were pitting in the area, one grabbed a wrench and started breaking the lugs free, another grabbed the jack and started jacking the car up. I hopped in the trailer, grabbed a spare tire, checked the pressure, darn it's low! Quickly put 5 pounds of air in the tire, and tossed it to the pair of folks putting the tire on, and jumped back in the car and got strapped in. By the time I had my belts done, my window net was in place, the tire torqued, the car lowered, and I was on my way back to the hot pits. If you don't make the 5 minute before the race starts mark to the hot pits, you lose your qualifying position, and start at the back of the race.

Start of the race, everything is going well, I got a good start, missed the $100k Porsche Turbo that was sitting backwards on the track, Peter missed it also, but it was much closer for him. The Honda Civic wasn't so lucky, he hit the sitting duck Porsche and his race was over.
I was able to put some distance between myself and Peter and a few cars. My race was going very well, until about the half way point, which at Mission is about lap 10 out of 20.

These cars burn aprox 5 gallons of fuel in 1/2 hour. I remember getting my car weight checked after qualifying and I weighed 2676, our class minimum weight is 2650, which meant I had 26 pounds of fuel onboard for the race. I needed 35 pounds of fuel(5 gallons * 7pounds/gallon=35), I now remember that I was going to put in 2 gallons more of fuel after qualifying, but I totally forgot about it with everything else going on Sunday morning. Oops.

I had been running a speed race at this point, now suddenly, I was running a fuel conservation race. I had to get the best mileage possible for the next 10 laps, speed be damned. I started only reving to 4500 rpm, shifting into 5th gear as soon as possible on the straights, pointing people by left and right.

Peter's car had developed a fuel starvation issue again, and he retired on lap 11, just as I realized I had forgotten to put fuel in.
What makes this even more ironic, is that Greg, Peter, and I had discussed weight and fueling issues for at least an hour on Saturday.
All I had to do was finish ahead of Greg, and weigh more then 2650 crossing the scales, and I'd win the race. Greg caught up to me with just 1 or 2 laps to go, but I managed to keep him behind me.

As I came into the pit lane, I declined the victory lap, knowing that it would burn more fuel, coasted over to the scale area, and asked folks for a hand pushing the car onto the scales. I thought heavy thoughts, and the scale came in at 2651!! Just barely made it.

Next time, I'll remember the fuel, and to check the tires!

I know they were out taking pictures, but I don't see them up on the site yet, perhaps by Tuesday evening they will be up there.
