Another fun weekend of BMW racing behind us.

Sunday morning was wet, and I don't think anyone improved their qualifying times over Saturday's dry lap times.

At Sunday noon the track was still wet for the Group 1 race featuring Pro3 and a lone E30 in SportBMW, and CProduction E36 BMW.

The start of Group1 was still on wet pavement, we bet we wouldn't have rain for the next 30 minutes and almost everyone ran their slicks or shaved tires.
With the wave of the green flag, we sprinted for the kink in the straight. We made it safely around to the back side of the track, when John Osborne, renting a Kahn Team Racing SportBMW E30, spun in front of me. He didn't appear to lock down the car in the spin, something we repeat again and again to drivers at HPDE schools, and since he was now sideways on the track, with 20+ cars coming towards him, he started towards the right side of the track, which was the only good way around him I had. I took to the grass instead of T-Boning him, and picked up a scuff on the right rear corner of my car from the stacks of tires in the infield.

Slicks don't do so well on wet grass, so by the time I got it straightend out and back on the track, most of the field had passed me by, including Greg Miller, running in Pro3!

I got back in the race and slowly worked my way up the pack until I was running behind Greg, not a spot I wanted to be. I followed him down the straight, and expected him to not brake as hard as I did in Turn 1. I had talked to him about it before the race as I encouraged him to brake later and harder for that corner to reduce his lap time. I went to the inside and waited almost 2 full brake markers later then Greg to brake, and stood on the binders to scrub off speed. Greg saw me coming and left a bit of room, so we went through that corner side by side. Greg had the faster outside line, but I had a shorter distance to travel.
I made it by him and started trying to put down some fast laps to open up a gap, so in case something happened later in the race, I'd have time to recover.

Sure enough, something happened, all by myself, I put it sideways the same place John O. did at the start of the race. I locked it down, saw no traffic was near, and got going again.

Ran to the finish, another successful race. Man I love this sport.

Mike B running his E36 in CProduction, didn't have any competition this race, but managed to really bring down his lap times with some changes to his car setup.

I really saw Greg M improve at Mission this time over the race last April. The next Mission race is in September, and I think it will be even more fun then this one was.

Sage came in 2nd with his 318i in his class in Group 2, he brought the car in safely, which was one of his goals I'm sure, after the incident last week in Portland. Haury's Bodyshop did a great job getting his frame straightened out in a jiffy, and his car drove straight again!
