Last year my fan was only working in the #4 position.
I changed out my K7 relay and presto, now it worked in all positions.

In December my fan died entirely. On Tuesday(haven't driven it much this winter) I pulled the cover from the fan assembly, and found the motor seized and the #20 fuse (30Amp) blown.

I used Kroil penetrating oil on the motor and got it spinning by hand, but it was slow. Also now my whole interior smells of Kroil, joy!
It would spin by hand, but kept blowing the 30Amp fuse. I had a small 30Amp circuit breaker, so wired that in for a short term fix.
Now the fan ran on high, #4, but not 1,2,3.

Dug through some parts stored at my friend Gregs house, and got a good working blower motor out of the pile.
Tested my resistor pack, and the 3 resistor wires are fine, BUT!! the thermal overload switch was shot. I'll try and post a pic of that tomorrow.
Installed a good used resistor pack, and now I have a great, quiet, all-speed blower motor!

Maybe I'll be driving it a little more this winter. Minimal salt in Seattle, just rain. Salt causes rust, not just water, so BMWs last forever here.

In case you haven't looked, new E30 blower motors are $470 from BMW.
Aftermarket Behr motors are $250 range.

Why are the BMW blower motors for E12, E21, E23, E24, E28, E32, E39, E53 all in the $220 range from the BMW dealer and E30 motors are twice as much???

Ha, yeah I saw that the prices on the blowers have skyrocketed! I think I replaced one on my 86 eta back in early 2000's for 100 or so. Not anymore!
