93 325i automatic wont start it cranks over and wants to start but won't there is some backfire too I checked codes and the only one I get is a 1A which the book says its a control unit supply can anyone tell me what that is and what to check please!

Have you been through a car wash recently? Old E36 are known to have their Control Units flooded either after wash or rain if drain holes are clogged.
If I were you, I would take the Control Unit out and check for corrosion, shorts, visible burn marks first. If nothing, check for vacuum hoses leaks. Check if fuel is freely flowing into injectors.
The problem you are having is hard to diagnose unless each item is checked thoroughly. Do a search on this forum for backfire symptoms.
