Hello,

My 1997 528i driver door exterior handle not working well. Driver door opens fine from inside, must extend exterior handle all the way up. still very hard to open door. Do you think it is a lubrication problem or should I replace exterior handle? Please let me know...

Thanks,
John

usually a simple adjustment on the side of the door with a phillips will resolve a stubborn handle...

roll the window down 1st, and on my g/f's 2003 330i i loosened the 2 or 3 screws, and raised it up 1/16th inch or so and retightened it..(it was a year ago, but i fixed it in less then 5 minutes). might of been a different screw or bolt..but it was easy.

I adjusted as much as possible. It did not make any difference. Any other ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John

apart from something being mechanically bent, or a strecthed cable,.

i wouldn't advise to tear apart your own car, take a few hours on a weekend at a local junk yard (where you pull your own parts) and learn how to remove or adjust the handle there...

i know her 330i has torx or star bolts, and pretty small, ask the dealer what size tools you need, and get some spares from a car thats being parted out.

my g'f's car had an un-aligned handle, that wouldn't let the door close cleanly, and it opened "clunkily" (if thats a word). and then her door lock actuater went out, so i went into the door to replace that (what a nightmare) that alone took me (at least) an hour (and i have all the tools).

but i was being extra careful, and i gotta say, even with the interior panel off, theres not a whole lot of room.

realoem.com should have a nice diagram if the dealership doesn't ....my local dealership has printed out pages of stuff for me from their parts prgram.

or try pelican parts.com for their tech articles...
