E bay question: Just curious and not looking for a bath of trouble...

Here's the vehicle:

Year: 1995
Make: BMW
Model: 5-Series
VIN: WBAHE5329SGA64840
Stock Number: V44722
Mileage: 111812
Transmission: Manual
Engine: 8 Cylinder, 4.0 L
Exterior Color: Silver
Interior Color: Gray
Title: Clear

Here's the question: Did this engine, based upon year of production have the Nikasil engine problem?

I believe this was the final year for the E-34 and a very few were manufactured as quasi M's with the V-8 and a 6 speed manual.

So...was this a year for Nikasil engine problem/repair/replacement?

Am curious.
Thanks Much

According to the numbers, I think yes. Nothing mentioned in ad. However researched and found this site. Might be of use to us if we haven't already learned about it.

Go to:

http://www.bmw-z1.com/VIN/VINdecode-e.cgi

Enter the last 7 digits of your VIN (including letters) and you'll come up with date of mfg etc. of your very own vehicle. Or any vehicle you are intending to look into. Happy hunting

Here is a link to an article on the M60 Nikasil issue: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M60
It gives the serial numbers effected. The Alusil (sp?) M60 is a fine engine but you don't want a Nikasil one in the US.

When we bought Hitler's revenge (my wife's e32) we were told it had a new engine. Soon I found out why. I crawled under the car with the list of SNs effected to be sure we did not have the dreaded Nikasil engine. It turned out it had been replaced with the Alusil engine. Other than the cooling system leaks which you seem to have to put up with in any BMW the engine served us well for well over 100,000 miles.

The down side of this car is that we had to replace $4000 trannys every 30,000 miles.

Hey Henry,
It's been a long time.

According to RealOEM, that car is a 04/1995 production car:
"04/1995 E34 540i Sedan M60 USA Left hand drive Manual"

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do?vin=GA64840

And according to this, they put the Alusil block in from 04/1994 and newer, so it came with the Alusil block as original.
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=HE53&mospid=47410&btnr=11_1251&hg=11&fg=05

Looks like a nice car, did you end up buying it?
