I have 5 series touring that goes back in a few months to the auctions after a four year lease.I have just come back from holiday and following torrential downpours in the UK last weekend when the car was parked in the drive the headlining began to leak .

the garage have just told me that it is likely that the drain holes are blocked and they have to remove the rear bumper to unblock them. This will cost me at least 4 hours labour or £111.

They could not answer these questions :
is it fair that I should pay for this
is it a good piece of design that the rear bumper has to be replaced to do this straightforward job
is draining these holes part of your regular maintenance program - I have a maintenance contract with them

With any luck someone from BMW will be monitoring this forum and wish to answer me but i would welcome any feedback .

many thanks : Laughing
This does happen sometimes. There is no definitive procedure to unblock them. I have not personally had to do this. If you are handy, you may be able to shoot some compressed air back into the drain. I do not know where the drain exits.

Why not let the next owner worry about it?

unfortunately the buck stops with me here until it goes to auction in a few months .The water ingress has coused an electricla fault which will be repaired under warranty. The issue is the garage says the rear bumper has to be removed to get to the drain Hole !

No one - even BMW national customer service department believes that !
