I am at work and can't see my wifes car, and my manual is home as well.

My wifes 1999 528iT broke down. The car is at the shop. They are saying the expansion tank blew, and the thermostat assembly needs to be replaced. They are looking for $539 to replace the above. a lot of money. I can get new parts from the dealer today for $240 out the door.

I have replaced the entire cooling system before, but I can't remember if I need to remove the radiator to get at the thermostat assembly.

does anyone recall if I can gain access to the thermostat assembly without removing the radiator?

thanks !!

If you have more than 80k on the rad, it s/b replaced, along with the water pump.

I believe you can access the housing w/o removing the rad. Do you have the Bentley's?
